Jewelry Care

  • Do not bathe or swim while wearing your jewelry.

  • Dry your jewelry as soon as possible, if it gets wet.  Moisture (water, sweat) is the leading cause of tarnishing.

  • Remove your jewelry before applying lotions, perfumes, hairspray, or other chemicals which may react with the metals or damage certain gemstones.

  • Take off your jewelry while working out.

  • Clean your jewelry regularly with a polishing cloth to prevent excessive tarnish build up.

  • Polish oxidized jewelry carefully to avoid removing the patina (darkened/antiqued look). Patina is intentional darkening, tarnish is not.

  • Remove your jewelry before bedtime.

Copper, brass, bronze, and to a lesser extent sterling silver, can leave a green discoloration on the skin when they react to sweaty skin. This is normal and not cause for concern.  This doesn’t mean the metal isn’t “real” or that you are experiencing an allergic reaction.  Some people have no issues wearing certain metals, while others may experience temporary skin discoloration.  Simply wash the affected area with soap and water and it will return to normal shortly thereafter.  To remove green discoloration from your metals, use a salt-and-vinegar mixture with one cup of white vinegar and one tablespoon salt.
